Twenty-five years ago, John and Leann Saunders, spurred by their entrepreneurial spirit and deep desire to best serve both the food industry and its consumers, co-founded IMI Global, now a division of Where Food Comes From. Having grown up on a ranch in Southwestern New Mexico, where her dad continues to ranch to this day, Leann was raised in the beef industry, so it made sense when she and her husband John launched IMI Global with a focus on beef a quarter of a century ago.
From the outset, IMI Global aimed to provide transparency and traceability in beef supply chains, as well as create new technology platforms to help them capture and analyze data. The IMI team created a model that would not only help independent producers meet the requirements of key export markets through the years, such as branded beef programs, but also communicate those very attributes that are increasingly important to consumers but can’t be verified simply by looking at the product.
IMI’s entire beef team is highly skilled and trained with agriculture degrees and extensive experience in the beef industry, and each member understands the importance of providing consumers with choice and verifying attributes that are important. Sustainability is important to everyone at Where Food Comes From and IMI Global, and that commitment to caring for natural resources, animals, and people threads throughout all of our programs and policies. Our motivation is to provide for a better future for all generations to come, and BeefCARE is our verification tool to help farmers, ranchers, and food producers on the journey of long-term, sustainable, continuous improvement.
